WIP | Maybe, Baby

It's a lovely day in the neighborhood. The sun is shining, my roses are blooming and a soft breeze is wafting through the windows.

As you know, I have for some time now been diligently knitting down the stash. My best calculations show I have more than a year's worth of yarn, when measured in Yarn Time, which means there's plenty of yarn at hand.

This is partly due to the fact that up until recently, I defined myself as a sweater knitter, so yarn tended to wander in the door in sweater quantities. Then I discovered the sweet seduction of small things. Dish cloths. Spa cloths. Mitts.

I also discovered the appeal of afghans. Early this year, I finished the Color Check afghan (aka Swafghan), which has seen near-daily use. Even though the weather's turned warmer, the mornings and evenings are cool, so if you stopped by at that time of day, you'd find me swathed in the Swafghan.

Which brings us to one of my current WIPs. It's a very simple baby blanket, knit completely from stash, and it's working up fast, comparatively speaking. I'm using a strip construction strategy and the delightfully simple cable rib stitch. Again. The stitch is reversible, subtle and gender neutral, so it seemed like a good choice.

Breidan Reversible Afghan
Stitch: Reversible cable rib
Yarn: Cotton Fleece (Brown Sheep)
Weight: Worsted
Needle: 7 US (4.5 mm) and US 9 (5.5 mm)
Sizes: SML (baby-lapghan-throw)
Ravelry: Project page

Out in the real world, I've been working around the clock. In knitter's world, I hope to cast on for the final strip this evening. With luck and a steady, gentle breeze, the blanket will be finished within a week. Maybe, baby.
